October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). In 2004, the Department of Homeland Security led the efforts for the first NCSAM. Since then, it has grown to spread awareness and resources to consumers, small businesses, corporations, educational institutions and young people to strengthen our nation’s security and to be safe online at home, work and school.

The National Cyber Security Alliance has put together a number of cyber security topics to focus on throughout the month of October:

Week 1 – STOP. THINK. CONNECT.
> STOP, make sure security measures are in place.
> THINK, about the consequences of your actions and behaviors online.
> CONNECT, and enjoy the internet.

Week 2 – Cyber Security in the Workplace is Everyone’s Business
Creating a culture of cyber security from the breakroom to the boardroom is an essential strategy in every organization.

Week 3 – Today’s Predictions for Tomorrow’s Internet
The internet of tomorrow may look very different than the internet of today. How will we secure this growing number of interconnected and interdependent networks?

Week 4 – The Internet Wants You: Consider a Career in Cyber Security
The nation faces a looming crisis resulting from the shortage of cyber security professionals to protect our extensive networks. Growing a skilled workforce is a critical starting point to building stronger defenses.

Week 5 – Protecting Critical Infrastructure from Cyber Threats
The systems that support our daily lives are increasingly dependent upon the internet. Building resilience in critical infrastructure – electricity, financial systems, transportation and more – is paramount to national security.
